Today the 16th of March, we visited the Vasa Museum in the evening, accompanying us was Gabriel and Lee along with two of our Swedish students Badal and Martin. This Museum is one of the worlds foremost tourist attractions and offers a unique insight into the early 17th century. The Vasa was a warship that set sail on her maiden voyage on the 10th of August 1628.However it was unable to reach its destination as it sank a on its way in the Stockholm harbour. The wreck was salvaged in 1961 after 333 years under the sea. The reconstructed vessel, 95 per cent original, that is splendidly adorned with hundreds of carved sculptures is placed in this museum.
Inside the museum we had a short filming of how the Vasa was made and its entire journey until which it sinked and was restored and placed at the museum. Our guide too explained alot about the Vasa and responded to all the questions we had for her. Besides the Vasa we also got to have a closer look at the model of it which is 1:10 of the fully rigged Vasa with sails set.Along with that we also saw some sample sculptures which were painted into variety of colours that the original Vasa was actually in. After a tour through different levels like the full scale model of Vasa's upper gun deck and the live inspection of the original objects found on board, we all went to the museum shop. Many of us brought a variety of souvenirs .
After our tour through the museum we all returned to our hostel, all tired and cold. After that we practised for the India Day. Hopefully evrything will go on well tommorow. Will let youll know about it tommorow. This was all for today from my side. Till then see ull !
