The functioning of Library at Tullinge Gymnasium

Finally, m posting on the blog!!

The library at our host school Tullinge Gymnasium is exremely well organised. The librarian there, Lee does take a lot of efforts to keep the library updated. There are about 21,000 books in the library and they are well organised into racks with titles such as Religion, Philosophy, Medical Studies, History, Psycology(different areas) etc.

Per day, about 20 books go out of library and sometimes during exams, assignments etc., the number reaches up to 100 also. Students who study Swedish language and are in the primary stage of studying it also take Swedish novels to read so that their language and vocabulary improves. Even teachers take books about new trends in Education.

There are three ways through which students can issue books from the library: 1)the students reserve them on the library page on the school website. 2)the students come to the library and see a book intersting and then issue it. 3)the students come to the library and ask about the books in a particular subject to the librarian ans she suggests various books in a particular subject to them. Even books are bought specially if students need them. If a student or a teacher demands some book, it is included in the library(but the librarian thinks before including it). Some books are even donated by various organisations to the library.

In addition to this, the librarian includes latest books every year in the library. There are many good books in English also. I was even surprised to find books of Indian authors like Arundhati Roy, Anita Desai, Aravind Adiga available in their library.

Another important factor is that they have the subject ;library education in their early years in the Tullinge Gymnasium in which the librarian teaches them how to reserve and issue books. The books which are very old and no one issues themare given to institutions like Old-age homes etc. But if the librarian finds it important, it is kept. Before sending a book out of the library, the book is shown to the teachers of the respective subject and their view is held into consideration.

We all found the library very interesting and we even were given books by the librarian when she thought we might like reading them.

So, till then,

hej du !!
